Just because you have difficulty breathing, is not always emphysema. Other conditions, in addition to emphysema, which can cause breathing difficulties in the initial (or each stage) lung cancer, COPD, lung disease impeded (I think that is the correct name), asthma, bronchitis, pneumonia. The doctor may ask you if you smoke, if you quit the habit and, or when someone smokes around you or if you are exposed to irritants that can cause respiratory problems, such as chemical fumes and strong odors. In some cases, difficulty breathing is the result of an allergic reation to an allergen, the allergic?
If it is indeed emphysema, you should consult your doctor about how often the difficulty in breathing, and what they have, you feel short of breath. Sometimes when you have the whole day having trouble breathing, you may have difficulty in breathing during the night. This may actually stop breathing during sleep and not even know. This is called sleep apnea, and very dandangerous. .. When this happens, ask your doctor about a portable oxygen tank, a sleep pa (sp?), Or a compressor for your house.
Good luck and I hope his health improves.
It will ask if you are a smoker, and thus the lungs and chest e-ray. You may have an MRI or CT. You can fill out a health questionnaire for long.
Remember ... You might ask too many questions.
